Q & A with Andrea McArdle

1. What did you eat for dinner and breakfast before the race? For dinner I ate the pasta and salad provided at packet pick up. And a piece of cake! For breakfast I ate a banana with some fig bars. Coffee too of course.

2. Was this your first time doing the Mt. Taylor 50k? This was my second time running Mt. Taylor.

3. What section did you feel the best? The first loop felt great!

4. What section did you feel the worst? 
Miles 24-28 were very, very rough.

5. First time using poles? Did you like having them? First time using them in a race. I’ve used them a lot this summer for work (owl surveys) and pacing Travis. They’re great. It’s like putting yourself in 4-wheel drive!

6. Any trail/aid station angel shoutouts? Sarah Willis is an aid station hero.

7. What did you eat and drink during the race? I had 2 gels, 2 packs of honey stinger chews and lots of water and tailwind

8. Did you ever sit down? At the halfway point Travis had a chair out for me. I’m apparently one of the only people to sit down but it felt amazing! 

9. At mile ____ I thought I might ______.
At mile 5 I really, really wish I had my camera. Absolutely stunning views all around.

10. Has the Ohio State football team sent you a thank you note for your win? It seems you inspired their late success Saturday night. 
They haven’t yet, but I have a feeling they will :)
