My Practice by Arlene Armijo

My Practice
Yoga, put simply can be described as the union between breath & movement. Often times we think of yoga as movement in a studio, on a mat, led by the most flexible human EVER. LOL!  We believe that we have to fill a certain space in order for it to be categorized as yoga, but, by simple definition yoga truly is your body in motion coupled with your breathe! This last week, I was given the opportunity at an amazing Lululemon event  to talk about how yoga shows up for me in my day to day training. So I decided to write it all down and share with you a snapshot of my “yoga” practice!
Schedule –
Every training cycle starts with a schedule. A piece of paper with a master plan and an elusive commitment you make with yourself and a hairy goal; all with the hope that consistency and time will get you closer to that GOAL and that those quick paces will be your new norm!
Yoga shows up for me in the form of – TRUST
Hold the vision, always trust the process.
Uniform –
Race day comes – my uniform is laid out like a suit of armor ready for battle. I’ve practiced many workouts in it, done a handful of practice races in it and the moment I put it on, I feel strong, confident, and proud. My team’s logo adorned over my heart reminds me that I’m never alone and to always run strong.
Yoga shows up for me in the form of – peace & connection to my community
Start line –
Months of training and hard work all culminate into one opportunity to show how hard you’ve worked. The nerves are wild and the race shoot is electric. Then there is a brief moment of stillness before the gun cracks... and you’re off. The movement feels like a wave of energy propelling you forward and once the start line sprints have settled, you can hear the collective cadence of thousands of people - the collective heartbeat of a runner that unites us all. We were all strangers at the start but forever friends united by our journey of 26.2.
Yoga shows up for me in the form of – JOY
No matter the outcome, my practice is always evolving, so I breathe, trust my practice and run on.
