One Stepping Podcast

The rumors are true - Michael Farmer & Jesse Armijo have launched a podcast! Here is the back story covering why they started it and what they hope to accomplish along the way!

Cheers to Podcast #1 going LIVE!

Why did you start the podcast?

Farmer - When I moved to Albuquerque just over a year ago, the Dukes were my primary (frankly, my only) social outlet in a new city. The beautiful thing about running is that it can cause those instant bonds from the understanding of shared pains and sacrifices. I was overwhelmed by how immediately the team welcomed and supported me, and am constantly thinking about ways to give back.

Jesse - Running is such a huge part of my life, and throughout the years I have been fortunate enough to have met so many wonderful people in the running community. The bond running creates is entirely organic between two individuals, and especially between two competitors. I felt that, in order to share that connection, what better way than to introduce expose as many individuals from the running world to the community through interviews, talking nonsense, and just sharing old memories over the wire.

What do you hope to accomplish?

Farmer: One of the ways I hope to promote the team and Albuquerque, in general, is with a new podcast we are starting in 2019. Most running podcasts that I’ve listened to are very technical in nature (training, results, gear, etc.), and I think there is a lack of depth given to the individuals who participate in this painful pastime. “Oh wow, you do tempo runs AND lactate threshold work?!” My hope is to get to know other runners better and in turn, give listeners more of a stake in rooting for athletes out there grinding out the miles. Apart from interviews, there will also be segments that just include the weird shit that runners talk about when they are together – it’s in our nature. Jesse and I have both been involved in the running community in various parts of the country for a couple of decades now (he at a much more elite level than myself) which I think helps provide different perspectives to a sport that nearly everyone has tried at some point in their life, be it in a race on a track or one across a yard.

Jesse - I would like the listener(s) to get a better understanding of the people we interview or invite onto the podcast. It would be nice if everyone could go for a run with these guests and let the slow struggle of a conversation happen; however, since that won't happen for most, maybe we can invite the listener to get to know the guests through simple dialogue. I would consider most of our soon to be guests as friends and fans of the sport, so I want them to spark some encouragement to the listener and expose more people to our lovely sport of running.

And so our One Stepping podcast was born. I’d like to give a big “Thank you” to the Brooks Beasts for not balking at the risk of being the guinea pigs in our first interview segment. We will have a couple of podcast episodes posted this week and will share the links once they are approved on all of the major podcasting platforms.
