DTC Quarantine Survival Pack
New Normal.... kinda
Let's be honest, we're living in some weird times. What once was routine is no longer and many of us are slowly starting to find a rhythm in what we're all cautiously referring to as the "new normal". And through it all we're finding things in our daily routines to keep things fun, keep our bodies and our minds inspired and our hearts full. So we checked in with you all to see what's keeping you going during these times in hopes of offering a little inspiration to our fellow DTC run fam!
We hope you enjoy!
1. What's your go-to pump up song right now? What beats are getting you out the door or helping you stay active?
We've complied everyone answers into an EPIC playlist that can be found HERE! Enjoy!
2. What's your staple workout (at home or outdoor) or go-to quarantine run (if you have a link - add it!)
Moriah - A short circuit involving exercise bands and an exercise ball; My fave run is a quick little jaunt around the block.
Eric B - At home it's 5K on the rowing machine plus a core workout. Outside it's runs in the Foothills Open Space on the weekdays, tandem bike rides out of town with Laura on Saturdays, runs on the Tramway path on Sunday. I've been trying to commute by bike on the days I have to rotate into the office.
Farmer - At home it's push-ups and medicine ball sit-ups, and on the roads it's sticking to the north side of the heights, which is very infrequently trafficked and even has a closed road section for me (if only it were longer).
Avi- Same old same old. Just out there grinding
Chris P - I just run to/at the UNM North Golf Course with Jaqen. For upper body I play tug of war with him or do tricep curls and lift him in the air while he holds onto the rope.
Keane- It's been easier to find time for post run stretching. This routine from Roots Running Coach Dr. Hansen is my go to for easy days.
Sean - 6-9 mile run in the North Petroglyph Open Space I call Volcanos
Phil - 3-2-1 workout
Derrick - In the middle of nowhere, nothing but nature and I, as far as my goods can take me.
Cheryl - 6-8 mile run around the NMSU campus
Andrea - Fartlek! 3-4x (3-2-1) is a favorite
3. What shows are you binge-watching at the moment or would highly recommend to your fellow run family member?
Moriah - The Witcher on Netflix
Eric B - I'm getting caught up on Star Trek (Picard and Discovery) when it's just me watching. Laura and I are binging the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel together.
Farmer - While I'm working I'll have something on in the background that I've seen a million times (like Seinfeld, Community, Arrested Development, Top Gear, etc.) but when I am sitting down to watch something right now it is Ozark, like a lot of people. Show-Me State represent?
Avi - Been watching alot of movies lately. Specifically rom coms. "He's just not that into you" and "you've got mail" top the list right now
Chris P - I don't binge watch other than RuPaul's Drag Race with Arlene. I'm waiting for the new season of Bosch though, and watching One Piece, Better Call Saul, Clone Wars, and Westworld as they come out.
Keane - I just started re-watching The Wire, since folks over at The Ringer are launching a Wire Re-Watch podcast. Without exaggeration, I submit to you that The Wire is the best series of all time.
Sean - Chicago Fire
Phil - Ink Master
Derrick - Game Shows and classic movies
Cheryl - Westworld
Andrea - I'm re-watching Seinfeld, but obviously Tiger King has sucked me into the vortex.
4. Splurge at-home food or drink during this time?
Moriah - Coffee, so much coffee (I honestly don’t even need it!)
Eric B - Single malt scotch and lots and lots of hot tea.
Farmer - Medium-rare steak and whiskey on the rocks - nothing has changed there.
Avi- Pizza!!!
Chris P - Not sure how much of a splurge it is, but I'm drinking tons of different sparkling waters. I guess my dessert is usually ice cream with hot sauce.
Keane- I'm trying to learn to make cold brew coffee at home, since going to coffee shops is tricky these days. Biscotti's are a nice pairing.
Sean - Cookies
Phil - Cookies
Derrick - Popcorn and juices
Cheryl - Chips & salsa
Andrea - Kombucha and chips/guac
5. Favorite healthy dish - inspire your fellow teammate chef's (recipe's welcome)?!
Moriah - Vegan Tofu scramble
Eric B - We just made two recipes from Run Fast Eat Slow: the Zucchini Pesto "Pasta" and Fish en Papillote with Lemon and Olives. Recipes attached, but I recommend getting the whole book, and the sequel, Run Fast Cook Fast Eat Slow. We made some modifications to the zucchini dish. Go heavy on the olives with the fish.
Farmer - Medium-rare steak and whiskey on the rocks.
Avi- Avis Sardine Surprise (sauteed kale and grape tomatoes with sardines, peppers, onions, and feta cheese) on top of a bed of rice or quinoa
Chris P - I make my own pasta (I guess that's another workout), and cook up pasta aglio e olio pretty frequently. Basically this recipe except I make the noodles.
Keane- Ha, I've got little to offer for this one. I suppose I've been ramping up my breakfast game recently, for the sake of starting days off on a positive note. Pancakes are fun because kiddos get to help with the more simple tasks, like stirring the contents in the mixin' bowl.
Sean - Rice bowl w/ ground elk meat, sautéed veggies & sriracha.
Phil - Spaghetti
Derrick - Fresh deer heart with scalloped potatoes and macaroni and cheese.
Cheryl - Mint risotto
Andrea - Run Fast Eat Slow's cauliflower curry soup
We hope you enjoyed everyone's responses and are left feeling inspired! Stay safe, we miss you all and keep up the amazing work!
xo,
DTC
Andrea and I have the same workout!!! 3-2-1 is a staple!!!
